Microsoft Dynamics CRM Desktop Shortcuts

August 29, 2009

A recent request prompted a quick solution. To create a shortcut to a CRM entity like New Case or New Lead: This example will create a new Case Form Shortcut

1. Navigate to Services then Cases and choose ‘New’

2. If the URL is not visible, click Ctrl+N and the following screen will pop up: Copy the URL

3. Right click on your desktop and choose New then Shortcut.

4. Paste the URL into the box click next and give the shortcut a meaningful name. You can do this for any entity and is useful if you have an entity you regularly need to get to in a hurry.

My CRM has a base language which is ≠ 1033, why am I not able to use Mobile Express ?

August 19, 2009

At this moment Mobile Express is only available for US English as a base language. As a result you would not be able to install ME on a system where base language is not US English.

How to enable Logging in BCM

August 3, 2009

There are two ways to enable logging in BCM

User Interface
Registry

User Interface:
To enable logging through the User Interface go to help > About Business contact Manger
Check the box that says Enable logging for Business contact Manager

Registry
Logging through the registry can be enabled by manually adding the following keys prior to starting Outlook
HKEY_CURRENT _USER\Software\Microsoft\Business Solution eCRM
Check for a DWORD VALUE called BCMLogging , If not present you’ll need to create one and provide a value data of 255 (In decimal)
This would ensure that logging has been turned on .
Also when these options are enable , a log file called BCMLog_V3.log is written to:
C:\Documents & Settings\<User name>\Local Settings\Temp (On Windows XP )
C:\Users\ <User Name>\AppData\Local\Temp (On Vista )
You can also access the file by going to Start > RUN > %TEMP%
